West Coast Caesar

Any Caesar rimmer should either contrast or complement the drink. The one here is a contrast, as the Chinese five spice powder helps mellow the seafood flavours of the cocktail. This Caesar was designed using a British Columbia–made gin, added oyster sauce to reflect the wealth of seafood in BC, and capped off with Sriracha hot sauce and a rim that includes Chinese five spice, to represent the diverse Vancouver culture.

Fresh cracked salt and black pepper with Chinese five spice powder


  • 1 oz (30 mL) gin (preferably distilled in British Columbia)
  • ½ barspoon Sriracha hot sauce
  • ½ barspoon oyster sauce
  • 3 dashes Worcestershire sauce
  • 3 grinds fresh cracked salt and black pepper
  • 4 oz (120 mL) Mott’s Clamato Cocktail


1. Rim a highball glass with citrus and rimmer.
2. Fill the glass to the top with ice.
3. Add the ingredients in the order listed.
4. Stir well to mix the cocktail, and garnish.
